Nanaimo, BC: Vancouver Island University (VIU) is hosting a series of research talks highlighting important issues facing our communities, environment and society as part of the Research Seminar Series. The free seminars are open to the public and bring together faculty experts and student researchers to share their knowledge in accessible and engaging ways.

“Recognizing our geographical position and the unique aspects of the mid-island region makes VIU research highly relevant to the communities we serve,” said Eve Stringham, Interim Dean of Health Sciences and Human Services and Interim AVP of Research and Graduate Studies. “Mentored by skilled and dedicated faculty, students engage in a variety of projects that not only enhance learning but also align with regional and community needs.”

From breeding climate change-resistant shellfish, to protecting salmon from toxins released into streams from car tires, to enhancing the management of mountain bike trails across BC to boost tourism opportunities, VIU experts are excited to share the work they are doing to solve pressing local issues.

The series runs on Wednesday evenings until mid-March and is hosted by VIU’s Scholarship, Research and Creative Activity department.
